8th Meeting of the Working Group on Aquaculture

The Eight Meeting of the Working Group on Aquaculture (WGA) of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) will be held in Kuwait, State of Kuwait from 17 to 19 April 2018. The meeting, which will be hosted by the Kuwait Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, brings together the aquaculture experts, academics, researchers and representatives of the observer regional organizational. The meeting is expected, for the first time, to witness a full attendance from all of RECOFI Member States, namely BahrainIraqIran (IR) KuwaitOmanQatarSaudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.

 

The Meeting aims at reviewing the intersessional period activities of the Working Group, reporting on the outcomes of Ninth Session of the Commission, Ninth Session of FAO Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and FAO Regional Conference for the Near East and North Africa. Other topics to be tackled during the three-day event include Status review of aquaculture development by country; follow-up on the Regional Aquaculture Information System (RAIS) and Implementation of the RECOFI recommendation on minimum data reporting on aquaculture (RECOFI/8/2015/1). Additionally, the Meeting will have a specific technical session which will comprise presentations and discussions on the following 3 topics: Developing marine cage culture in the Near East for enhanced aquaculture sustainability; Desert and Arid Land Aquaculture in the Gulf – Opportunities and Impediments; and Aquaculture product and services updates.

 

Discussions, decisions, and recommendations of the meeting will be reflected in the meeting’s report, which will be published and be submitted to the 10th Session of the RECOFI, scheduled for April 2019

 

RECOFI was established in 1999 to promote the development, conservation, rational management and best utilization of living marine resources, as well as the sustainable development of aquaculture in the region.
